I am trying to do the helloworld tutorial, and there is an error as soon as I create a java project:

Errors occurred during the build.
Errors running builder 'Java Builder' on project 'HelloWorld'.
java.lang.NullPointerException

According to similar posts, I should also paste the error log:

Which version of Eclipse did you install? Which version of Java is being used in Window -> Preferences... -> Java -> Installed JREs?

I ask because these bugs sound related:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=546338
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=545558

You'll see in the first bug that the developers are having trouble reproducing the problem, but that they've attempted to fix it in the current development stream of JDT (aimed for the upcoming 2019-06 release)...

At this point, I think the only fix is to update to the unreleased 2019-06 version using this update site: http://download.eclipse.org/releases/2019-06
