RCP config.ini not working since updating to Eclipse 4.9 [message #1801145]

I use a custom config.ini file for my RCP application which is built on Eclipse 4.7. Since updating to Eclipse 4.9 it no longer works, such that when launching the RCP application there is an error.

Here is the config.ini:

eclipse.application=com.archimatetool.editor.app
osgi.bundles.defaultStartLevel=4
eclipse.product=com.archimatetool.editor.product
osgi.splashPath=platform:/base/plugins/com.archimatetool.editor
osgi.bundles=org.eclipse.equinox.common@2:start,org.eclipse.update.configurator@3:start,org.eclipse.equinox.ds@3:start,org.eclipse.core.runtime@start

And the error log is attached.

Note that the app does not use the org.eclipse.equinox.simpleconfigurator plugin as it allows the user to add plugins into the app's "plugins" folder.

Could it be a problem with org.eclipse.update.configurator?
