So what do I want to download?

I got to https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ and ... it wasn't clear. The top line has two cloud systems, and a promoted download ... but I'm not sure what the promoted one does.

Or, I go to https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/ and there's a "magic installer", or I can just select a package. If I use the magic installer, it will ask me to select a package. So, I have to figure out which package. But ... Well ... ???

It's like I can select a Java editor. Or a Javascript editor. Or a C/C++ editor.

What I want is:
1. Java
2. Javascript and typescript
3. Objective C
4. A generic replacement for VIM for editing plain text.

Is there a "one editor does it all"?

There is no single package that offers all the things you want. You'd need to select one package and then afterward you can use Help -> Install New Software to add additional features. The installer gives you exactly the same choice of packages as those that you can directly download, but the installer uses a shared bundle pool so you can create multiple installations without multiple disk copies of the features and bundles used by those installations. And on Window's the installer a native executable that will check to ensure that you really do have the necessary Java version installed on your machine for running the package you are about to install.

The package download page has links such as https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/release/2018-12/r/eclipse-ide-java-developers to show which features are in that package.

So no, there is no one editor that does it all. Each technology contributes a specialized editor and specialized support for dealing with that technology/language.

The table at https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/compare will give a rough idea of what's in each of the packages. As Ed mentioned,
they're just a convenient starting point. You can always add more.
