Dear all,

Can two devices with forte communicate over TCP/IP or UDP/IP if they are in different network segments?

Hi,

if you use TCP this works because of the features of TCP. UDP will not work as the "IEC 61499 compliance profile for feasibility demonstrations" defines for the UDP usage (publish/subscribe) a TTL of value of 1. That means that it will not cross network segment boundaries. Depending on your use case maybe then using another protocol like OPC UA or MQTT would be an option for you. With TCP and MQTT we made already experiments to communicate with entities in a cloud. This should also work with OPC UA but I haven't looked into it.
