Hi,

Sirius does not provide such mechanism.
Though you can have a look at the extension point "org.eclipse.gmf.runtime.diagram.ui.editpartProviders". This allows you to provide your own edit part that would have what you want.

When working on ticket #525533 for Sirius 6.0, which added support for background color on diagrams, we experimented with background images support. There's a patch which works for simple cases, but supporting a complete version of the feature was more complex and less of a priority. At the moment this work is in standby and not on the roadmap, but of course that can change if you want to contribute or sponsor the development.
