Why does a project Rename turn into copying? [message #1791674] Wed, 04 July 2018 00:16

I have occasion to need to rename Eclipse projects from time to time. Usually this is quick, but sometimes Eclipse decides to instead copy the whole project and delete the original. This is inordinately slow, and cannot be cancelled.

I think this may be because I have some other tool active that has one of the Subversion files down in the project being held open. I'd be happy to find and close the offending application (I think it's Tortoise), if only Eclipse would tell me and give me a chance before starting this huge copy operation.

Is there a way to configure Eclipse to refrain from such a project copy when I ask for a project rename?

I'm running Eclipse Neon.1.a Release (4.6.1) on Windows 7 Pro.

Thanks for any guidance you can give.
