When I try to update my eclipse plugins (or do just about anything that involves connecting to a SSL-enabled repository), I get a PKIX path building error such as:

Some sites could not be found. See the error log for more detail.
Unable to read repository at https://github.com/ryansmith4/m2e-jaxb2-connector.update/raw/master/org.eclipselabs.m2e.jaxb2.connector.update-site/content.xml.
sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested

(see full stack trace at the bottom)

My knowledge on security is limited but I believed the issue was that my company proxy's certificate is not recognized by the JRE Eclipse is using.

I tried to solve the issue by:
- exporting my company proxy's root certificate from a web browser to a .cer file
- importing that .cer into the cacerts file of the JRE that Eclipse is configured to use

However the error has persisted. Is there something else I should be doing?
