Is there a way to ignore whitespace changes when enabling "Show Revision Information" in the Editor?

There's a toolbar button for that just before the up and down navigation arrows.

Not sure which button you mean. What tooltip does it have?

Is the Compare editor open? It says Ignore Whitespace Where Applicable and is before the "Next Difference" button on the toolbar when the Compare editor is open. There is some Git preference about "Ignore Whitespace changes" too, but I don't know what that does...

I am asking vor something else. I am talking about the revision information in the editor gutter. There I can see who has changed a line:
