Git user.name set to one thing, but staging view says something else [message #1782593]

For quite a while, I had my "user.name" git config property set to "David M. Karr". I just heard that my org was changing commit verification requirements, so I had to change it to "Karr, David (mycompanyuid)". I made that change. I verified that change was stored in the %HOME%\.gitconfig file. I then went to the staging view and prepared to commit and push some changes.

In the view, the "Author" and "Committer" fields were set to "David M. Karr <email>".

What's going on here?
