I've found that if I have a bunch of files open in Eclipse, and I manually close the tab for many of those files, and then restart Eclipse, it will just go ahead and reopen all of those files again.

This includes files of several types, including java, decompiled class files, stashed git commits, pom files, and others.

It's been doing this for a very long time. I believe I've asked about this in the past, but I've never gotten a useful answer.

That's definitely not normal behavior. Have you tried creating a new workspace from scratch to see if it behaves the same way?

I'm saying i've been seeing this for years. I've created many workspaces over this time and seen the same symptom in every release and workspace.

How are you using Eclipse? Is more than one window involved? Is anything else installed that opens and closes editors for you automatically?

I never use more than one main window. I never use any sort of external tool to open editor windows.

It appears this is being done by Mylyn. I've filed the following bug report: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=529753 .

What a great piece of troubleshooting; that's one of the best bug reports I've seen from a user in a long time. You're an excellent open source community citizen, David!
