I just installed Eclipse neon.3 on my Macbook pro and Java JDK 9. When I launched Eclipse, it asked me to select a workspace location. After I clicked OK, an error popped up. I tried to read the message in the .log file, but unable to understand. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

You're using Java 9 to run an older release of Eclipse that isn't set up for Java 9. Check https://wiki.eclipse.org/Configure_Eclipse_for_Java_9#Configure_Eclipse_to_run_on_Java_9_VM for instruction on how to fix that. Oxygen.1a properly supports Java 9.

Nitin, thanks for your help. I actually don't need JDK 9. I simply downloaded the latest version without knowing about the incompatibility. I tried to follow the configuration, but it's for Windows and I'm on a Mac. I think the easiest way is for me to install Java JDK 8 instead. Not knowing much about Java, can I simply install JDK 8 to overwrite JDK 9 or do I need to uninstall 9 first? If JDK 9 needs to be removed, do you know how to do that on a Mac? Thanks.

I don't know of a clean way of removing Java 9 from a Mac, other than running "/usr/libexec/java_home -V" and removing the Java 9 installation. I think that leaves the browser plug-in behind, though, which would require a similar manual removal.

Unless you're intentionally using the outdated Neon.3 release, you could also just install the current release of Eclipse. Oxygen.1a works just fine with Java 9.
