When I select multiple lines and hit "Delete" key, eclipse crashes. It was working fine in MacOS Sierra, but i see this issue when upgraded to MacOS High Sierra.

I saw this issue with Eclipse Mars / Eclipse Neon and even with latest downloaded Eclipse Oxygen.

I'm having the same problem and it's maddening. It occurs with frequency and is reproducible if you delete the same block of text.

I can imagine that this would be very annoying! Maybe the issue goes away with 10.3.2? In any case, someone needs to open a Bugzilla report to track the issue, if there isn't already one. Likely it's an issue that can be reproduced with just the Text editor, likely is' an issue that needs to be addressed in SWT's native support...

I opened a bug report (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=527171) yesterday and referenced this discussion on the Community Forums. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.

In the meantime, I changed my "autosave for dirty editors" interval to 3 seconds after turning off any actions that occur on save (build for example). At least now when it occurs I've not lost much if any work.

Preferences->General->Editors->Autosave
Click the Enable autosave for dirty editors checkbox and enter the time in seconds for autosaving any editor window that has been altered (i.e., is dirty) since the last save.

That is correct.

However, I have seen eclipse consuming lot of memory. I have set up Java parameters in eclipse.ini as:

-XX:MaxPermSize=256m
-XX:MaxMetaspaceSize=256m

-Xms256m
-Xmx1024m

However, I have seen memory spike up to about 1.5 Gig too. Have you seen similar issue.

Same goes for me. When I select a bunch of lines and hit delete key it crashes, or if I try to cut some lines of code it crashes. Man this is annoying. Can somebody find a fix for this.

Me too, it's a pain in the core having to restart everything for a simple cut.
Has anyone found a way around?

HELP!

I have the same problem - when I copy/paste code or even just collapse a method - it crashes. :(

So here is a workaround that seems to work for me - instead of Delete, if you use Cmd-D, it works fine on multiple selected lines. CmdD deletes one line or selected lines.

Cmd-D seems to work for deleting more lines w/o crash, but if you select all (Cmd-A) and then Cmd-D.. BOOM!

I see in the system log the following complaint:

*** task_malloc_get_all_zones: couldn't find libsystem_malloc dylib in target task

It seems this is fixed in latest Oxygen and Photon, but I'm still using Luna (!).

Workaround: never delete lines not visible in the editor: you can select a number of lines to delete at once, but make sure that all are visible.
