Eclipse Neon.3 refuses to start after Kubuntu 14.04LTS kernel was updated from version 3.13.0-119 to version 3.13.0-121. The crash occurs so early in the start sequence that there are no log entries and no JVM crash message.

The only message is on a console start:
tauno@ubuntu:~$ tauno@ubuntu:~$ cd ide-latest-released/
tauno@ubuntu:~/ide-latest-released$ eclipse/eclipse -consoleLog
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
tauno@ubuntu:~/ide-latest-released$

How and where to trace the problem?

Update: The same happens on Kubuntu 16.04LTS with kernel update from 4.4.0.77 to 4.4.0.81.

It seems that the crash is related to the recent security update of the kernel.

I just checked. I run 4.4.0-83 on Linux Mint (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS). No problems whatsoever.

You're right. The current kernel updates, 4.4.0-83 for 16.04 and 3.13.0-123 do work.
It seems to me that the previous kernel update (-81 and -121) was fishy.
Case closed.
