In the Eclipse Memory Analyzer (MAT), the list of objects tab gives numbers for objects. The columns are labeled Shallow Heap and Retained Heap. What is the unit of measurement of these numbers: Byte? Word (i.e., 32 or 64 Bit)?

The size is in bytes by default - but you can change that from the preferences.

See Memory Analyzer 1.5 new and noteworthy but unfortunately that information hasn't made it into the normal help.
