I wanted to echo back data received. If I connect the RD1 of SUBSCRIBE1 with SD of PUBLISH1, this is not possible. "ANY not compatible with ANY" is displayed.

Is this correct behaviour?

Unfortunately currently yes. The problem is that most layers currently will check if the incoming data is suitable for the data output. Therefore you currently have to explicitly type the interface by adding some intermediate FB which gives both sides a type.
