So I downloaded a COBOL compiler and used Notepad ++ for a testrun with COBOL, as earlier I used Java with JDK and Notepad++ at the beginning.
The core problem now is, when I try to execute the program with cmd, I get an error message which says it isnt able to run a 16 bit programm on a x64 OS.
I also haven't included COBOL in my variable System PATH with the fear to wreck my PC. Anyone knows any advice?

You obviously use a *very* outdated COBOL compiler when it is 16bit. I suggest getting GnuCOBOL, official 32bit windows executables are ready-to-use and if you like to you can build 64bit executables yourself.
You may have guessed it: works even better with a linux OS.
