Has been done any work on an Eclipse IDE replacement in pure e4 already? That's more a question of replacement of common e3 plug-ins like Project Explorer or Error Log view by pure e4 based components to get away with the compatibility layer.

The only thing I've found on this is a document about SimpleIDE* which is marked as historical and has not been changed since 2014. This document also don't show how to get this.

* https://wiki.eclipse.org/E4/UI/SimpleIDE

Many thanks for any comment on this, since using the compat layer and the permanent necessity to deal with e3 and e4 concepts all the time so many years after e4 publication is a little bit disturbing. In fact one's not able to write pure e4 apps right now with any contribution to Eclipse IDE like components if you don't want to reinvent the wheel by yourself. (Well, I could contribute this afterwards for sure and would be the most liked new member of the Eclipse IDE development staff immediately Laughing, but have neither resources nor knowledge on my own actually, unfortunately ).

Kind regards
Guido

There is a bug report (enhancement request) that seems to cover your use case: extending Eclipse IDEs via E4 fragments:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=510257

As for now, there are some ways to extend the IDE which are described in Lars' tutorial:

http://www.vogella.com/tutorials/EclipsePlugin/article.html

I think the E4 team neither has much time and resources to provide the services you request. You can still contribute by donating to the Eclipse Foundation which has a program (FEEP) to fund most wanted features (at least for the platform):
