I have tried several times to install Eclipse Neon and have been getting an error stating Eclipse requires Java 1.8. I have installed Java 1.8 and when I run the Java -version command it reports 1.8 is installed. Does anyone know the solution to this problem?

Have you mixed up 32-bit and 64-bit Eclipse and Java installations?

I tried to install Neon 64 on 'doze 10 and the installer advised that I needed to install Java, even provided a link to the Java installs at Oracle.

I installed Java 64 1.8.0. Java thinks it is installed but Neon does not. Attempts to run eclipse-inst-win64.exe take me back to the Eclipse 'Java for Windows Missing' page.

I conclude that at the moment 'Ecilpse Neon will not Install Windows 10'.

If you open a command prompt and run java -version, what does it print? Can you paste the complete file system path where you've installed Java?
