Importing a Gradle project from git sees the wrong gradle version [message #1751138]

I recently posted the following question on the Gradle Buildship forum: https://discuss.gradle.org/t/two-different-paths-for-importing-gradle-project-result-in-different-underlying-gradle-version/20997

This has to do with importing a Gradle project using the "Import using the New Project wizard" choice.

The response I got from one of the project developers indicates that this path is broken, and always has been broken, and it's effectively a bug in eGit.

Can someone provide some background on this issue?

I also note that the first path that I tried, which was selecting "Import Projects..." from the context menu of the git repo, but that doesn't even allow creating a Gradle project, so is useless.

I don't use Gradle so I have no clue how to reproduce your problem.
Please file a bug if you think this is an EGit bug and provide steps to reproduce.
A sample repository would also help.
