I cannot move the executable access via icon (Oxygen) to Ubuntu 16.04 desktop.
Getting this error message.

The Eclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its
companion shared library.

Could use some help to solve this.

Thanks

The eclipse executable has to remain where it is extracted. If you want to launch from the desktop, you have to create a desktop launcher. Check the Ubuntu documentation for information regarding creating a desktop launcher. An additional point, make sure that you specify the eclipse folder as the run in location.

Apparently "Launcher" implementation varies with Ubuntu versions.
I tried 12 something version, downloaded it but cannot figure out how to execute it.

I am still looking for 16.04 version of launcher.

In the meantime I tried the "lock to launcher" option and it did not work.
Just to verify , I have no problem "locking" terminal to launcher.

Ubuntu 16.10 Desktop Guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/index.html
Specifically: https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/unity-launcher-intro.html
Found using Google "launcher Ubuntu".
There is more: "Ubuntu 16.04 create launcher".

If you need more help, Ubuntu support forums would be more appropriate.

Here you go gain.
You did not get what I am asking for. Perhaps my fault.

None of these links covers how to add application to launcher.
Been there , done that.

I guess next time I'll ask question here I need to include list of sites where I have been.
Also I am not sure how to respond to your "ask someplace else". I do not need you telling me where to post my inquirers.
You are nice, knowledgeable person, but if I may use same teaching / preaching approach as you do - read it first than respond with something constructive or ask for clarification.

Cheers

I took "I tried 12 something version, downloaded it but cannot figure out how to execute it" and the rest
as one (or more) of your non-question questions. If not why mention them?
I directly linked to something that explained how to execute one and how I found it.
Something you could have done yourself.

No, the links didn't show how to create one but instead I gave a way to find out how
using Google "Ubuntu 16.04 create launcher".
But you apparently didn't even try.

This forum is for working with Eclipse CDT issues.
How to use and make Ubuntu launchers is off topic hence inappropriate.
