We are pleased to announce the release of Eclipse Collections 8.0.0, following the successful release review at the Eclipse Foundation.

The primary theme of the 8.0.0 release is leveraging features of Java 8. In previous versions, Eclipse Collections already used Java 8 in test modules, but the main library targeted Java 5 bytecode. By dropping support for older versions of Java, Eclipse Collections can benefit from new features and better integrate with the standard libraries.

Please find the change detail in the release note.

Thank you Hiroshi and everyone who contributed to this amazing release!

I'm very excited about the Eclipse Collections 8.0 release. We've been backwards compatible to Java 5 since we first upgraded an early internal version of the library from JDK 1.4 over a decade ago. Compiling with Java 8 and being able to leverage new Java 8 language and library features has been great. It also creates plenty of opportunities for new contributors to join in the fun of helping us evolve this amazing Java Collections framework. Don't be shy, contributing through the Eclipse Foundation is relatively easy. Check out the contributing link above.

If you are attending JavaOne this year and want to see some of the new Eclipse Collections 8.0 Features live in action, we'd love to show you what it can do for you at one of our demos in the Eclipse Foundation booth. We'll also be discussing and demonstrating some of the features available in EC 8.0 at the two JavaOne sessions I will be speaking at (CON3417 & CON5544).

There will be two Eclipse Collections committers and two Eclipse Collections contributors available in the exhibit hall throughout the week to answer questions. There will also probably be some robots roaming around running Java 8 with Eclipse Collections. It's happened before.

Hope to see you at JavaOne and if you haven't ready, check out Eclipse Collections 8.0 at our website, in GitHub or download it from Maven Central and give it a spin!
