How to add space/line among items to show grouping (for diff disciplines)? [message #33429] Thu, 07 June 2007 18:56 Go to next message

Folks,

Does anybody have any suggestion on how to present phases of two different
but interrelated/parallel disciplines in one page (e.g., sw development
tasks and the project management tasks within, say, the Coding phase). The
"Assign" tab allows you to add tasks from both and order them, but I
cannot "group" nor delineate/insert a line between the tasks that have
been added into the list to visually show the different groupings (or is
there a way to do this?)

I guess in Main Description I can use a manual combination of text and
HTML links in the RTF Editor, but is there a build-in feature of EPF that
can accomodate these kinds of groupings?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Alex,

If you want a visual representation for these different groupings, have you
considered drawing an activity diagram for this activity or capability
pattern?
If you are adding tasks from multiple disciplines into this activity, you
can create an activity diagram for it where all the tasks appear, then add
one or more "activity partitions" from the pallete so you visually organize
those tasks.

I hope that helps.

Thanks Ricardo,

The current users of the process for some reason did not really like the
activity diagrams produced. But even so, in the text, in the Assign tab,
there's unfortunately no way for me to group the tasks. For now, I could
somehow manage by manually inserting some HTML code, which I have to do
everytime the process is re-published. Maybe this is a possible EPF
enhancement? To add a "separator"/"space" in between items, along with the
current Move Up/Move Down capability?

Thanks,

iv

Maybe you want to consider raising an enhancement request for the tool in
Bugzilla.

Thanks.

Ricardo.

What about creating another level of breakdown and placing the tasks in
seperate Activities?
You could also use the Prefix field for each task descriptor to indicate the
Discipline they belong to.

Peter.
