Hi everyone,

I am doing a project about the topic desinging and implementing an M2M Application using OM2M. When I found some documentation in the internet, I know that the OM2M is defined based on the ETSI-M2M and OneM2M Standard. These two standards make me a bit confused about the similarity. Can anyone tell me what is the difference between these two standards, the ETSI-M2M standard and OneM2M standard?

Thank you so much!

Hello,

Historically the ETSI-M2M standard was the first published. More recently, the oneM2M standard has been developed. It is inspired by the ETSI M2M standard as the ETSI is a member of the consortium and brought its expertise.
The functional architecture and resources have changed somehow and new features have been introduced.
For instance, the applications of smartM2M are now considered as AE (application entities) in oneM2M.

Hope this helps,
Guillaume

hi Guillaume, thank you for your answer.

As I understand so far that the oneM2M is something like the improved version of the ETSI M2M standard, isn't it? And from your point of view, which standard should I focus to design an M2M Application? Which one is better? And it seems that the OM2M also support these two standards, am i right?

Hello,

From this point, the ESTI M2M standard will have no more new release. As ETSI joined the oneM2M consortium they will avoid to keep developing a standard on their own.
OM2M version 1.0 supports now oneM2M but the previous version ( 0.8 ) supports ETSI M2M.
I would recommend you to go further into details with oneM2M as ETSI SmartM2M will not evolve anymore.

Guillaume
