Hello everyone

I wanted to switch the default encoding to support Japanese characters. So I was trying each available encoding and see if I can get something out of it. Unfortunately, once I set the UTF-16, my Eclipse crashed. Each time I open Eclipse it crashes. Someone submitted a bug concerning this issue but I didn't see any followup.

Does anyone know how I can change the default encoding without opening Eclipse (since it crashes before I can reach the settings). I looked into the eclipse folder, but didn't find any way to manually change this.

Thank you.

How did you set it? Does your JRE support that encoding?

Hello Nitin,

For setting the encoding , I did something like:

Window -> Preferences -> General -> Workspace -> Text file encoding

Then a scoolbar popped up. Several encoding options were available, when I selected UTF-16 (I believe) , it crashed.

What happens with an empty new workspace? Of course just changing the
default encoding could make all your text files invalid if they're not
encoded with that encoding.
