I want to set up a general purpose development environment, with most components enabled, i.e. PHP, C++, Java, Modelling Tools etc.

My environment is an El Capitan Mid 2011 Imac.

What is the best approach to an "all components" install.

(and what is the most stable version of Eclipse to use for the OS version.

(Ideally, would like to install via Homebrew)

Have you downloaded and run the installer from https://eclipse.org/downloads/ ? Start with one of the packages that the installer offers, then you can use Help > Install New Software to select other features to install (see http://help.eclipse.org/mars/index.jsp?topic=%2Forg.eclipse.platform.doc.user%2Ftasks%2Ftasks-124.htm for detailed instructions).
There is no "all components" installation method because there is no definitive set of features that would define "everything" - there are many repositories of plug-ins and features and many of them are operated by third-parties. Even if you thought you'd want to install everything all eclipse.org repositories, that would generally be nonsensical - there's just too wide a variety of features out there to make such an installation practical.

Hi Peter,

You can download the Eclipse Installer from https://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse_Installer (that's a slightly extended
version of the installer that's offered on the main download pages) and install the "Eclipse Eierlegende Wollmilchsau"
package (at the bottom of the product list). This package contains literally everything from the release train. It's not
very pretty, though.

With Oomph Setup installed into any IDE you can also create your own packages (use the "Setup Product Model" new
wizard). Of course that requires to learn about authoring such models. A starter is in
https://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse_Oomph_Authoring and there are lots of example, which you can open via Navigate -> Open
Setup -> Parent Models -> Catalog Index.

Cheers
/Eike

Hah, love the name of that package! Only in German could such a name be commonly used! For those who want a good chuckle, google that phrase - it's priceless.
