Hi,

I'm interessting in learning xtext and xtend and I found the book Implementing Domain-Specific Languages with Xtext and Xtend for august 2013. Can anybody tell me, if this book is still uptodate or are there other / newer books, which I can read to learn xtext / xtend?

Thanks for your help and
kind regards,
Andreas Grund

PS: Happy new year everybody

hi,

there has not that much changed, but of course there where changes that are not covered by the book (Xtext in the Web, Xtext in Intellij IDEA, the new Project Wizard with Maven and Gradle Build etc) but the the core Topics it is still an excellent source

Hi Andreas,

I had some chat with Lorenzo Bettini recently and he is looking to provide a new revision of his book.
In the book, there is a reference for the sourcecodes and AFAIK, they have been upgraded to meet younger 2.8 versions as well.

Unfortunately with XTEXT 2.9, itemis has decided to stop supporting a couple of features mentioned in this book and replaced it with some (IMHO far less userfriendly) options.

But as long as you stick with 2.8, I found it a reliable companion for my first steps with XTEXT/XTEND. These experiences are described in 9 articles for Eclipse Magazin called
"mit 'Babysteps' in die XTEXT-XTEND Welt"
which are compiled as 3 ebooks under the "shortcut" label.

Hallo,

vielen Dank für die Informationen. Konnte Herr Bettini schon irgendwelche näheren Angaben machen, wann die neue Version des Buches fertig sein wird?

Grüße,
Andreas Grund

Hi

I'd like to add that in the github repository,
https://github.com/LorenzoBettini/packtpub-xtext-book-examples there is
a list of changes that you need to apply for each new version of Xtext.

I still haven't been able to update the list of changes for Xtext 2.9,
and as Uli mentioned, I'm in contact with the publisher for a second
edition :)

cheers
Lorenzo
