Hi

I am running Eclipse Mars.1 (4.5.1) on Fedora 23 (under VirtualBox 5). We are behind a corporate proxy server. I have tried entering the proxy details via:

Preferences > Network connections

and directly in:

/usr/lib64/eclipse/eclipse.ini

but updates fail to download and the internal web browser fails to load pages.

Firefox working within the VM works fine, so network access to the VM is ok.

I have had this working ok in older versions of Eclipse. Are there any known proxy issues with Mars?

Any other suggestions please?

Best regards

David

Open the Error Log view, clear the log, then try an update/install, see if any (new) errors or warnings are reported in Error Log.
You might also want to attach some screen shots showing your proxy settings in Eclipse, in case someone sees anything there worth noting.

Hi Eric

Thanks for your reply. In my Eclipse installation there is no Window > Show View > Error Log . So I looked at:

workspace/.metadata/.log

I ran Help > Check for updates. It failed and the following appeared in the .log:

Here are my proxy settings:

http://imagebin.ca/v/2ScjbVklchUn

Also, as suggested here: https://wiki.eclipse.org/Disabling_Apache_Httpclient, I have modified the startup of eclipse as follows:

http://imagebin.ca/v/2SckZ92VLgKQ

I would be very grateful for some help to get the proxy settings working.

Best regards

David

It seems that my problems were related to working on a virtual machine. I now have Eclipse working on a 'real' Linux machine without problems. That is ok for me now.

You might want to post about this on the ECF forum; I think P2 uses ECF under the covers so they might have some insight about why it was failing on the VM.

I found the solution to this bug here
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=422665

I deleted the content of
~/.eclipse/*oomph*
and changed my eclipse.ini where I added the last line:
-startup
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.3.100.v20150511-1540.jar
--launcher.library
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.gtk.linux.x86_1.1.300.v20150602-1417
-product
org.eclipse.epp.package.cpp.product
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
-showsplash
org.eclipse.platform
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
256m
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
--launcher.appendVmargs
-vmargs
-Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.7
-XX:MaxPermSize=256m
-Xms256m
-Xmx1024m
-Dorg.eclipse.core.net.enableGnome
-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
-Dorg.eclipse.ecf.provider.filetransfer.excludeContributors=org.eclipse.ecf.provider.filetransfer.httpclient4

Starting eclipse resulted in a message "new software available"...
