Hello everyone,

I got kind of a problem here... I created a SysML-model using Eclipse Mars. I worked on that over quite some time, saving, exiting and loading as normal. But now, when I try to open that model, the Model Explorer claims the model is empty. All the files (.di, .project, .uml, ...) seem to be in place. The last thing I did with that model was exporting diagrams as .png I think (which I did before as well, and which shouldn't matter anyways).

I also tried opening it on Eclipse Luna (which I still have installed, without using it), but as to the same effect (only that the model explorer will show me the imported ModelLibraries (Ecore Primitive Types, UML Primitive Types), but I don't think those are model specific).

Anyone got any idea what to do? I am running a Windows 7 machine, could follow up with hardware specs if that would help any...

Thanks a lot!
Adrian.

Hi Adrian,
To check whether your model is actually empty or not open the .UML model
with the UML Editor (or any XML editor) and see what is there.
To do so, right-click the .UML file, choose Open With and select the
editor you prefer.
If the contents of your model are not there, there isn't much to do
unless you have a backup.

Best,

Víctor López-Jaquero

Hi Adrian,

Is it possible for you to share the model directly? Or at least a screenshot of what the issue looks like? Maybe a copy of your Error Log view?

Regards,
Camille

Here, in reply to both:

I checked the .uml, it does seem as if there was no model information in there, but only information about the applied profiles:

I compared to another model I have, which looks very differnt. So, I am loosing hope here? Did not backup my files, as of course I should have done.... Argh! Any idea on what could have happened?

Attached is a screenshot of what it looks like. There is no error log, as Papyrus opens the model without complaing; only problem is, that it seems to be empty.

So, rebuild and backup more frequently? At least I have the exported .png's to guide me, so I will just take the whole issue as a warning...

Thanks for the help,
Adrian.

Hi,

Indeed, this is an empty model. It would be interesting to know how you got there.

Anyway, you can try the Eclipse's Local History to get a backup of your model. Right click on your *.uml file > Replace with... > Local history

You may have to do the same thing with the *.notation file

Eclipse cleans the Local History from time to time, so no guarantee that it's going to work

HTH,
Camille

Hi,

yeah, that would be interesting to know... If there is anything like a log file I'd be happy to upload? Sadly, the local history is empty, so there goes that.

Thanks for the help anyways,
Adrian.

Hi Adrian,

Quote:

The error log file is in ~workspace/.metadata/.log (Or .bak_N.log)

Note that it contains all the exceptions that were logged into Eclipse for a long period, so this log file may contain sensitive information

Regards,
Camille

Hi,

here comes the .log file. I deleted a bit of its history, everything relevant should be included though. I modified the model last on November 14th. I am not exactly sure on when it first came up emtpy, but I guess it must have been some time after then. I hope this helps (possibly not me now, but maybe others or future me).

Regards,
Adrian.
