I've got an unusual Eclipse problem that is driving me nuts. I'm hoping someone here might have a clue as to what is causing the problem.

What's happening is that the Eclipse window, without having focus, will paint over whatever window has focus. It doesn't steal the focus. The window that gets painted over remains the focused window.

I've narrowed down the symptoms quite a bit, and hopefully that helps. The scenario in which this happens is very specific. So far, in my testing, it only happens with the Navigator window, and only when the horizontal space within the Navigator window is not large enough to display the full file names. When this happens, if you move the mouse over a file name which does not fully fit within the Navigator window, it creates a little popup to show the full file name. This pop up will display regardless of whether or not the Eclipse window has focus, and if it doesn't have focus, it paints the entire Eclipse window despite not having focus. The Eclipse window will then remain on top until I change focus to another window (I can drag the focused window around the screen, and the Eclipse window remains on top as I drag the focused window behind it).

If I compare this to the Package Explorer window, you would expect the behavior to be basically the same, but it's not. If I hover over file names in the Package Explorer when Eclipse does not have focus, it doesn't generate the popups. Only when I give Eclipse focus do the pop ups appear in Package Explorer.

This is really annoying as my Eclipse window is usually the biggest window on my screen, and I often have the Navigator open. Any time I move my mouse over the Navigator, just trying to get my mouse to another part of the screen, it frequently triggers a pop up and paints Eclipse on top, forcing me to monkey around with window focus to fix it. This happens frequently as I often need to switch between windows.

This hasn't always happened, and as far as I know, the software hasn't changed or been updated. There is the possibility that some setting got changed due to the infamous cat steps on keyboard scenario, which has happened recently. Could there be some strange Navigator setting that maybe got changed and is causing this? Are there some settings I can try to reset to default?

Thanks,

Scott Arnold

This kind of thing is also happening with me. It's accompanied by quite a lot of flickering. I'm using KDE on Arch Linux.
