I'm installing latest Eclipse, trying for a lean install for primarily PHP/JS/JSON/Web/etc editing with Aptana Studio 3.
It's installed, but I can't figure out how to identify the Aptana editors when doing "Open with ...".
I've installed Eclipse from the minimal Platform Binaries tarball
...
awt.toolkit=sun.awt.X11.XToolkit
eclipse.application=org.eclipse.ui.ide.workbench
eclipse.buildId=4.6.0.I20150805-2000
eclipse.commands=-os
linux
-ws
gtk
-arch
x86_64
-launcher
/usr/local/eclipse/eclipse
...
eclipse.product=org.eclipse.platform.ide
...
-Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.UseWebKitGTK=true
...
org.eclipse.swt.browser.UseWebKitGTK=true
org.eclipse.swt.internal.gtk.version=3.14.15
I've installed Aptana Studio 3 as a plugin,
...
com.aptana.feature.studio (3.7.0.201508172228-7g7A37jBXhoyPO_L3VuJ7sU2wjX2) "Aptana Studio 3"
...
along with its selection of Editors,
...
com.aptana.editor.html (3.0.3.1408146668) "Aptana HTML Editor" [Active]
com.aptana.editor.html.core (1.0.0.1384479598) "Aptana HTML Editor Core" [Active]
com.aptana.editor.html.formatter (3.0.3.1407781207) "Aptana HTML Formatter" [Starting]
com.aptana.editor.idl (3.0.0.1365778450) "Aptana IDL Editor" [Starting]
com.aptana.editor.js (3.0.3.1428659270) "Aptana JavaScript Editor" [Active]
com.aptana.editor.js.formatter (3.0.3.1407781207) "Aptana JavaScript Formatter" [Starting]
com.aptana.editor.json (3.0.0.1407781207) "Aptana JSON Editor" [Active]
com.aptana.editor.markdown (3.0.0.1365778450) "Aptana Markdown Editor" [Active]
com.aptana.editor.php (3.3.0.1407783092) "Aptana PHP Editor" [Active]
...
I've also installed some additional modules/plugins, like 'Symfony2', 'Markdown', etc. and allowed the installs to pull necessary dependencies -- so there *are* some PDT pieces, etc.
I've configured Aptana with a theme of choice.
I'd like all my files to open in Aptana Editors, with that theme.
When I create/open a project, and open a file, for example
It opens in a different, non-Aptana Json editor, with a non-Aptana theme.
If I right-click + "Open with ..." on the file, I see
Composer
Json Editor
JSON Source Editor
Text Editor
Text Editor (Studio)
System Editor
Default Editor
Other ...
If I select the 2nd one, "JSON Source Editor", to open the file, THAT appears to be the Aptana editor with my selected theme.
(1) Looking at that, and any other file's "Open with ..." menu, how do you tell which eclipse plugin is providing which editor? THere's nothing that I can find that would indicate that "JSON Source Editor" is the Aptana editor, or what's providing the other one, "Json Editor".
(2) Is there some means to force my files to always select Aptana's Editors as a default/preference?
