I'm finding pages for both "M" and "R" versions of the packages.

Unfortunately M and R are very short words so google and eclipse forum search is failing me.

What's the difference between these?

R = Release
SR = Service Release
RC = Release Candidate
M = Milestone

Contradicting the page title, milestones and release candidates are not releases, they're "just" coordinated builds with
more testing than "normal" builds.

Nice reply, but it does not seem clear if "Neon 1", "Neon 2" and "Neon 3" are exceptions to the "R" convention (since they have RC each ) or if they are some another type of build.

Neon.1, Neon.2, etc are "update" releases that typically come 2 or three times per year (in between the major releases every June) - think of them as minor releases. You can see the schedule (recent past and near future) at https://wiki.eclipse.org/Simultaneous_Release . They are indeed full "releases" as opposed to "builds" like M(ilestone) and R(elease) C(andidate).

Thanks for the reply. At the current moment, what version would one use if looking for a good balance between latest feature and stable/time tested version of eclipse. Neon.3?
