I'm looking to parse the XML output from ProR, to select items for use in a test tool.

Is the section <SPECIFICATIONS></SPECIFICATIONS> only used the once in a project/specification?

Hello Max,

Yes, there should be only one SPECIFICATIONS section per ReqIF file, which of course can contain multiple specifications.

The persistence format is described in detail in the ReqIF Specification at http://www.omg.org/spec/ReqIF/1.1/

Thank you - I'm using that to assist.

Could you possibly give me a quick overview of what defines the parent < - > child relationship in the xml? I've got a tool written now that can scrape the SPECIFICATION and SPEC-OBJECTS, but I'd like to retain the nested SPEC-OBJECT levels for import into my test tool.

It isn't apparent to me what is controlling this relationship at in the REQ-IF xml.

Hello Max,

The nested Structure results from the SpecHierarchies, which are children of other SpecHierarchies, with the Specification at its root. Each SpecHierarchy references a SpecObject. Typically there is one SpecHierarchy per SpecObject, but it's perfect legal to have multiple SpecHierarchies reference a SpecObject, or none at all.
