Dear all,
As already mentioned a couple of times, we will be proposing a new eclipse project related to scientific workflows. Now it also has a name : Triquetrum!
The Ptolemy II framework of UC Berkeley will be an important element in the solution. They have offered the name "Triquetrum", which they were already using for investigating new Ptolemy UIs and integration with eclipse (cfr http://triquetrum.org).
I am still early in the process of writing the proposal, but the project would involve 3 lines of work :
- a Ptolemy model editor and model/workflow execution platform, both as an eclipse RCP application and for server-based runtimes.
- a Task-based processing service layer, reusable in different use-cases (e.g. also for ad-hoc workflows). This will include requirements for "reproducible research" and "sustainable data and software".
- supporting APIs and modules for integration with external systems, resource managers etc.
I think that the Science IWG is the ideal forum to gather a community around this.
There is already interest for active participation (and for using the resulting software) from several members of the Science IWG, e.g. the project leaders of DAWN/DAWNSci (Diamond UK), ICE/viz (ORNL) and the Sandia Analysis Workbench and also from the Ptolemy team. Many thanks for that, and more are welcome of course!
We plan to have a couple of "kick-off" virtual meetings to align on the initial project description. A first one will be next Thursday, June 18th.
The project proposal should be ready for submission by the end of June.
Any comments, feedback, questions are welcome!
regards
erwin
