Hello,

Version 1.0 of OpenUP/Basic is targeted for the end of June. If you
haven't contributed to OpenUP/Basic yet, we’d like your help to make it
as complete and understandable as possible. Your participation can
involve just two minutes of work, or as much time as you’d like to
contribute.

A review version of OpenUP/Basic has been posted to the wiki at
http://www.epfwiki.net/wikis/openupreview/. Please take a few moments
and review a page or two (or as many pages as you’d like), and note any
areas that seem incomplete or could be expressed more clearly. We’re not
looking for major changes or additions at this point. We’d just like to
address any pages that have missing, incorrect, or unclear content.

After reviewing it please create a comment for the page in the wiki (use
the Edit/Info button at the top). Indicate the date and reviewer even if
you don’t have any changes. We’d like to keep track of which pages have
been reviewed. Additionally, you can make recommendations for changes
directly in the text by editing the page if you wish.

Thanks for taking the time to review the content and helping to make
OpenUP/Basic successful.

- Jim Ruehlin, EPF Committer

Hi,

I had a quick look. I must say on first impressions (havn't looked at it for
some time) its looking very impressive, well done all concerned! I like the
way you have managed to distill it down to its bare minimum and keep it
elegantly simple.

I like the wiki interface for collaboration too.

I've left two comments:
1. On the role term "Architect" - consider using the term "Solution
Architect" (see detail)
2. One on the Activity diagrams for each Phase. Consider orienting them from
left to right to get the feeling of time moving from left to right. (see
detail)

regards Charles

One thing I neglected to mention is that you should also feel free to
report any bugs or enhancements. This will guarantee your concerns are
discussed and tracked. Report bugs here:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/enter_bug.cgi?product=EPF. Be sure to
select the "Content" component.

This is a great way to get feedback on a work in progress. Is there
documentation about how to create a wiki version of an arbitrary EPF
plug-in during its publication? I didn't recall this as being a
functionality of EPF's composer.

I think I just found it on the about page of the wiki site:

Did I get it right?

Hi Jim and others,

I'm basically responding to your request for feedback.

* Context:
Our company has been adopting RUP; the company employs +15,000 people, there
are different customers, technologies and processes in use currently (mostly
waterfall-like); my mission: as the RUP mentor I'm helping the projects to
convert from the current model to agile practices. As agile practices
becomes more and more popular (Scrum, XP) we decided to support their
implementation within the company and release a combination of UP+Scrum+XP;
we decided to base it on OpenUP/Basic.

* Current status:
We went through the OpenUP/Basic, "assessed" it from CMMI perspective (our
company requires) and I would like to say you have done great job! It helps
us very much at this moment. However we need to do some changes, mostly at
guidance level (e.g. Work items list in Jira), of course; the exceptions:
1/ Decision making: We are about to create a task Make a decision and
assign it to all disciplines to show people they should consider
alternatives in team (their pros and cons) at several levels: planning,
implementation (pair programming is a good trigger for this), etc.
2/ Configuration management: we will probably add stuff like
configuration management plan, audit, etc. - not deeply considered yet
3/ Change management: I like to solution based on common work items list
(one common solution for requirements, CRs, bugs, tasks, etc.) - that's the
way we have been using it (tailored RUP) for quite long time; however I'm
about to say more about regular team meetings (core team meetings in case of
larger project - some sort of generalization of Change control board)
handling recent changes and scheduling them (in context of PM/Manage
iteration)

* My question:
- It is related to point 3/ Change management: Manage iteration task (under
PM) has four steps however non of them relates to change management anyhow -
I would have a step regularly organizing handling changes in order to
reschedule current or next (preferably) iteration (part of Manage
objectives?)

Once again, thanks a lot for great tool!
