Hi,

It seems that many people are waiting to see some progress in Virgo development, like support for Java 8, Blueprint/Spring 4 and Tomcat 8, IDE Tooling for new Eclipse versions, etc.

Is it possible to give some estimate for the next Virgo release date?

Is it going to be 3.6.4 or 3.7.0, and which are going to be the major improvements?

Regards,
Markku

We are currently short on resources which is the cause for the slow progress you are observing.

There are plenty of possibilities to positively influence the release date.
You can actively contribute to the Virgo project: You can start submitting patches, and the Virgo project is always happy to onboard new committers. Another possibility to support the Virgo project is via sponsored development.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you are interested in any of those options.

The 3.6.x stream will primarily contain security bugfixes.

The main goals for 3.7.x are those you already mentioned:

  • Java 8
  • Blueprint 2.0
  • Spring 4.x
  • Tooling improvments
  • Gradle build system
  • as well as pick up the latest 3rd party libraries.

Hi Florian,

Thanks for the information. Looks like short of resources is something very common these days. Unfortunately.

Hi Joel,

there will be a milestone with Gemini Blueprint 2.0.M03 and Spring 4.2.1 soon. Currently I'm doing some smoke testing of our nightly spring-4 build. If you can spare some minutes your feedback is highly appreciated and will give us more confidence and can speed up the cool down phase.
I'll create the milestone as soon as we can integrate slf4j 1.7.13 and logback 1.1.3.

Regards,
florian
