The upcoming version of Eclipse (Mars) now has an easy-to-use installer. No more unzipping!

Please try it out:
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/index-developer-installer.php

Please report bugs , or odd behaviour to Bugzilla:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/enter_bug.cgi?product=Oomph&component=Utilities

Eclipse Mars is scheduled for release towards the end of June, 2015.

Looks cool. What's the advantage of having it install though? Will there be some interesting installation options, like preinstall software stuffs? Hmm...

Easier to combine packages together, and it also walks you through some default preferences that are easier to miss. Also, it allows you to record/save preferences, and to apply preference changes to all your workspaces.

I am not sure if this is on topic or not, but has there been any thoughts to getting this to work with Raspian on the Pi 2?

I highly doubt that. One would have to contact the IoT project: http://iot.eclipse.org for their insight.

Timothy,

You mean the download link for the installer executable? Please let us
know the link; mangle it if you can't post links yet.

How does one package an existing Eclipse Mars installation as a "User package" for Eclipse Installer by Oomph?

What I really want to preserve and be reconfigured on install are:
* Installation settings, eclipse.ini contents
* Plugins and their configuration
* Workspace projects or at least their list and VCS urls
* Settings and configuration (line numbers, formatter, content assist, templates, types to import)

Are these things possible to persist in a User package at all?
Is there any documentation on the subject?

Thank you!

Your best option is to ask in the Oomph forum:

That doesn't sound good. If you tell us the exact steps needed to reproduce that we might be able to find out why that
happens for you and how it can be fixed.

Hmm, when I read that sentence I think all is good. But I suspect you mean something else. Maybe you describe your
problem in more detail? What exactly have you done and what is the result?

The downloads at https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ Still downloads a .zip file not installer, the page given in your post at https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/index-developer-installer.php is a 404 File not found. Where is the resources section that was in this site now?

It's this page: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/installer.php

A newer version of the installer is available here: https://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse_Installer

I tried to install Eclipse Mars using the Eclipse Installer, and it gave me an error message saying I need JDK 8.
I'm using JDK 7 because my computer still uses Windows XP, where JDK 8 isn't supported.
I was able to get Eclipse to run by installing it manually, and putting a reference to my JDK in eclipse.ini.

Please note that the installer binaries that are available on the main download page now only require Java 7.
See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=477996 for details.

Apologies for the late reply, but thanks for fixing the installer!

This thread is being locked to prevent "thank you" responses. Questions about the installer should be either new threads in the Newcomers group or directed to the Oomph forum.
