Trying to analyze heap dumps using MAT:

Parsing heap dump from '/home/xxxx/Downloads/mat/java_pid338448.hprof" has encountered a problem.

An internal error occurred during: "Parsing heap dump from '/home/xxxx/Downloads/mat/java_pid338448.hprof".

Java heap space

I get this error on Windows Server 2012 machines, Windows 7 machines, and on an Ubuntu Linux server. I have a handful of different hprof files to analyze, and all return the same error.

Any ideas about what I might be doing wrongly?

I'm not a developer, so please be gentle with me!
