How do i open eclipse via a desktop icon?? I have to go to my downloads folder and extract and open it like that... every time... I tried dragging the icon to the desktop but it didnt want to open with this message

"The Eclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion shared library."

any help would be much appreciated. thanks in advance!!

That's actually very little to go on. What platform are you on? Which file did you download? Does "dragging the icon to the desktop" mean creating a shortcut? Moving the executable itself?

The icon you may be clicking on is probably nothing more than that: an
icon. It's for use by Linux developers who want to set up a launcher
that uses that icon and for Windows developers who want to set up a
short-cut (and use that icon).

What you do, as Nitin points out, depends on your platform.
