Hi,
i'm thinking about using the Eclipse IDE with two screens.
One screen for all views and the other screen for the editor.
Has this done someone already? Is a photo available somewhere or can
take someone a photo for me? :)
Do i have to configure eclipse in a special way?
Cheers,
Ingo

Hi Ingo!
You could "detach" all views and arrange them on your "secondary"
monitor. Each view will appear in a window of its own, but you can stack
several views by dragging them into the same window.
Best regards,
Mario

However, it is not possible to remove the editor pane from a perspective.
So even the second window will have an editor pane.

Yes, but the second window will have its own outline and properties and
explorer-views and it is not possible to "link" these views to the first
window (each window has its own selection service etc.).
I.e. double clicking a file in the explorer-view will open the file in
the second window (but never in the first); the outline will not be
synchronized with the current active editor in the first window etc.

Ingo,
we played around with dual-head on windows 2000.
We saw some weired effects with windows controls.
For example:
- a text-control is disabled - but there is no code to set it disabled
- a text-control displays wrong values, keyboard input is broken
- some widgets are not properly resized, they are rendered to small
When we switched back to one screen everything was fine.
We don't know if this comes from windows or the gfx card.
We could not reproduce the effects. But every now and then
something was odd.

Another option that hasn't been mentioned is to simply extend your
Eclipse Workbench window so that it covers both monitors, then arrange
your perspective(s) such that the editors area occupies one half while
other views occupy the other side.

Hope this helps,
