Hi,

Eclipse is working fine as long as i don't open an editor but once I open any editor it keeps hanging and comes back for a second and hangs again.

I am using Windows 7 and eclipse galileo.

Can anyone help me.

Thanks,
Sambi

That is not nearly enough information for anyone to provide help.

I have the exact same problem. I'm running windows7 64bit with jdk1.6.0_20.

Eclipse runs fine but as soon as you open/edit a java file it hangs and restarts then hangs again.

Could someone help or advise on what I need to do? I can't find any log messages anywhere. The only log I found is in the workspace and frankly it's useless.

I'm a beginner at eclipse and so far it's not been a smooth ride.

Thanks in advance.

Are you certain you're not mixing 64-bit Eclipse with 32-bit JDK or a
64-bit JDK with a 32-bit Eclipse?

I've tried both versions and still same result. Seems like a UI issue as when I switch between applications, then back to eclipse it updates. But a second later it hangs again.

I've downloaded 3.6 (helios) and that seems to work fine. So i'll use that for now.

Thanks anyway.

Ok this is happening again and it seems related to my graphics card which is a nvidia 280 GTX. I did update to the latest drivers. Does anyone else have this problem?

I can easily trigger this problem by opening Windows 7's On-Screen Keyboard accessory. When On-Screen Keyboard is running, even when it is minimized and I've only used the regular keyboard with Eclipse, Eclipse becomes unresponsive every few seconds when an editor is open. Closing On-Screen Keyboard makes the problem go away.

Note that the On-Screen Keyboard accessory has unusual focusing behaviour to accomodate using it with other applications.

Obviously some people absolutely must have something like On-Screen Keyboard for accessibility reasons; however there are many similar programs available for free online that work fine with Eclipse.

Installation details:

  • My Eclipse Galileo (3.5) installation claims to be build 20100218-1602.
  • I'm using RSE/TM, Mylyn, Subclipse 1.6, and Pydev 1.5.7.
  • I'm using 32-bit Sun Java 6 SE runtime 1.6.0_20-b02.
  • I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on a Core 2 Quad with 8GB of RAM.
  • I'm using NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT and GeForce 8800 GS graphics cards. Device manager tells me that I'm using driver version 8.16.11.9107 of 27/09/2009.
