First of all, I hate to burden this list with questions that I could get
from documentation, but the only documentation I could find was in the help
system, which was very sparse. If there is another better source for full
fledged documentation I would love to get my hands on it. I really feel like
I need to curl up with a few books covering many of the elements of the
Callisto project since most of it I am confused by. I feel pretty lost!
Now to my tasks.
I am currently working with the sysdeo tomcat plugin. It works well, and I
am able to debug within tomcat. The reason I am considering WTP is because I
want to be able to begin testing on a remote server without manually
creating a WAR file and manually placing the file on the server. I am
thinking that WTP is supposed to help me here by allowing me to deploy to
remote servers, but it seems only to want to do local installs. I couldn't
see any options for FTP or secure FTP or anything like that. I only see a
place to browse your local hard disk. Is remote deployment part of the goal
with WTP? I know I could do this with ant, and that's what its for, but I
don't know ant and I just want a nice clean way to deploy rapidly for
testing.
The second question is that I am not sure how to create a project that WTP
will understand. It seems that it only knows how to make an ear project, but
I am creating a WAR file for use in tomcat. My current project under sysdeo
is a properly formatted WAR directory. I want to know how to convert this
into something WTP understands.
Finally, I am supposed to be deploying my app to a Geronimo server. I have
been told that Geronimo is a j2EE server that I can deploy a plain old WAR
file. My question is is there a way to do simple "single button" deployment
to a Geronimo server. My sys admin is telling me that to deploy to Geronimo
I can only use a web interface and upload it. This seems very unpleasant to
me because it is so many steps.
Thanks for your help.
Hank
