Help deploying large projects [message #106681] Sun, 02 October 2005 11:36 Go to next message

Hello guys

I m new to eclipse migrating from Oracle JDeveloper.
I m using it with exadel studio for my jsf application and having a lot of
problems.
I m strugglin preety good so far :)
And I think it's worth so i will continue.
Anyway.
One of the bigest problems I need to solve right now is how to manage my
web project to deploy it at all.
Well problem is that in it my webcontent folder I have a (huge) data
folder which is unlikely to be changed (even not often but once a month or
so) and in this folder is some static data (txt files).
This folder is 500mb+ and it have 50000 little files in it.
Problem is when I try to deploy this application or changing library paths
eclipse work long long time (building, setting build classpath...) and
freeze at some procent and I cant make it work at all.
Can I somehow do what I did in JDeveloper. Remove this folder from project
so everything will works much much faster and when i run my jsp those data
folders not to be deployed but to use it from where it is.
Can anyone help with this with some suggestions or solutions.
I hope I make myself clear enough.

tia Danilo

Is this large directory listed as a source folder for the Eclipse
project? The only reason Eclipse would need to "work" on it is if it has
been told that it is a source location.
How are you deploying your application from within Eclipse?

This large folder is in the WebContent folder.
I use eclipse with excadel studio (and tomcat) to run my web application
and it deployes automatically to .deployables folder from where the
application starts.

I figure that this is some default behaviour.
Dont know how can I fix it to suite my need. The goal is that eclipse
doesnt care for that folder. That way those files wouldnt be listed
anywhere or copy so it will works much much faster.
How ?

Sounds like you'd get more help by posting on Excadel forums - the
likelihood of there being Excadel gurus here is pretty low, I think.

HTH,

Well I dont think that this is Exadel issue. I think that this is just a
question of deploying ordinary web application from eclipse.

Doing that is a feature of Exadel, not Eclipse itself. Eclipse itself
does not do anything special for "web" projects.

If you were using the Eclipse Web Tools Project (WTP), then I'd point
you to the Eclipse newsgroup for that project...

For more info about WTP: http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/index.html
