Okay, first of all I really have to get this off my chest. The
preference page(s) for setting the keyboard shortcuts has to be the most
unintuitive piece of work I've ever seen. Second of all, the help topic
about assigning keys is the second most unintuitive piece of work I've seen.
Whew!! Now that I've said that much, I just switched from 3.1M7 to
3.1RC3 and I discovered that my favorite key sequence (Shift+Ctrl+F) is
no longer assigned to Source > Format (when editing java source).
Instead, Esc Ctrl+F is now assigned. That is really much less efficient
and quite awkward. Hit Esc, wait a second, then hit Ctrl+F. But if I
wait too long, a cute little window pops up in the lower right hand
corner of the screen with a prompt for what I want to do now that I've
hit Esc. I can pick Format from the list and go on, but holy cow!!
So I muddled through the Keys preference page trying to assign
Shift+Ctrl+F back to Source > Format, and it seems to have accepted it.
It is still there in the preferences when I close it and open it
again. It is listed in the little window that comes up when I hit the
Shift+Ctrl+L (Help > Key Assist...), but when I try to execute, I just
get a nice little underlined F that quickly disappears.
Why the heck doesn't it work?

Keith,
I assume you work on linux / gtk. There is a feature in gtk that will
capture Ctrl+Shift+{0-9A-F} to allow you to enter arbitrary characters
by number (try entering Ctrl+Shift+A to insert a line break). This is th
reason for the different key binding, and this usually also does not
allow you to enter Ctrl+Shift+F into the keybinding dialog.

I agree. If the PMC is willing, this should be fixed for 3.2.
