This project really caught my attention as localization of RCP
applications is of major concern for me right now. But the proposal
document specifically mentions "Eclipse projects" and "the Eclispe
Platform" when it seems that these same needs and concerns are true for
any RCP application. On one hand, anything that is developed for the
Eclipse platform should be usable by any RCP app, but I can also see how
not considering that from the beginning could result in something that
is totally unusable by the developers of RCP applications which are not
part of the platform. Why is this scoped so narrowly to just localizing
the platform itself?

You make an excellent point. The reason that we've scoped to the Eclipse
Platform is because those of us involved with Babel so far all work on
the Eclipse platform or products based on it.

I'm not very familiar with how RCP apps differ from Eclipse plug-ins.
Would you be interested in getting involved in the Babel project so that
we can be sure that our work is useful for both RCP and the platform?

Well, the Eclipse Platform should probably be synonymous with the Rich
Client Platform and the IDE in fact, is just the most common RCP
application so it seems to me that any work done for those developing
org.eclipse.* plug-ins should be easily usable by all RCP developers.
It just scared me to see the proposal scoped so tightly to the
internationalization of the platform itself.

I'd be happy to do whatever I can to help, although I can't make any
promises on how much time my employer would allow me to devote to this.
