Hi:

I had recently posted an idea on SAP HANA idea submission site.

I thought of sharing this here as well and probably exchange ideas, comments regarding the same since this relies heavily on creation of a editor based on GMF.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

There is a significant risk in SAP implementations due to lack of a viable datadiscovery concept and tool. There are numerous tools and services for data profiling and migration for existent data but not for data generation.

Since a lot of data is created from scratch or modified from existent data sources, legacy systems, this involves a lot of manual and tedious effort .This process has historically known to be a non-collaborative and prone to errors. The business users seldom have a technical background to understand the relationship integrity between the underlying data elements during the preparation of the LSMW templates such as material master, Bill of Materials, Routing etc. (please see attachments for sample LSMW templates)

SOLUTION PROPOSAL

The proposed solution is data generation based off the SAP Organization Model. This would be done by creating a Graphical editor tool either using Graphiti® or other tools using the Graphical Modeling Framework(GMF). This editor will have the objects in its tool palette which are used in creation of a SAP organization structure for instance Client, CompanyCode, Plant etc. The relationships between these objects will be modeled similar to SAP's entity relationships model, for example One Controlling Area can be assigned to only one company code. (See attachment for similar relationship rules). The metadata of each conceptual model will be stored as a XML structure and any changes or modifications to the graphical model will correspond to an equivalent change in the XML structure. The application logic in SAP HANA system reads and interprets this XML structure and generates relational data model objects. The users can later access these data objects through forms or other web based UI's for review or modification.

The salient features of this tool are as shown below.

a) Graphical representation of the SAP enterprise data model

b) Built in business rules and automatic data generation capability based off the graphical model.

c) Collaborative model with workflow capability between multiple stakeholders.

d) Automatic discovery of data exceptions
