AJDT installation problem [message #24956] Tue, 19 August 2003 15:48 Go to next message

hi,

I downloaded the following files from http://www.eclipse.org/ajdt
individually.
org.aspectj.ajde_1.1.3.jar - plugin
org.eclipse.ajdt.ui_0.6.3.jar - plugin
org.eclipse.aspectj_1.1.3.jar - plugin
org.eclipse.aspectj_1.1.3.jar - feature

After installing them in their respective directories as said in the
downloading page at eclipse.org site,
I checked the post installation checkings. But I couldnt find the plugin for
'AJDT - UI' in plugins list.
I also couldnt find the aspect editor to be set as default editor in
preferences.

What could be the problem?

Hi Venkat,

I cannot replicate this problem. Please could you verify that the jars were
unjar'd into the correct directory locations under your Eclipse install
directory. You may have had network problems while downloading the jars
which lead to some corruption. At the top level, could you verify that the
directory contents match the following ...

* <eclipse home>/features/org.eclipse.aspectj_1.1.3 should contain :-
|
|-aspectjLogo.gif (5,086 bytes)
|-cpl-v10.html (15,172 bytes)
|-feature.properties (5,517 bytes)
|-feature.xml (1,673 bytes)
|-license.html (4,796 bytes)
|-META-INF (dir)

* <eclipse home>/plugins/org.eclipse.ajdt.ui_0.6.3 should contain :-
|
|-about.html (1,944 bytes)
|-ajdt.jar ( 222,625 bytes)
|-ajdtsrc.jar ( 158,824 bytes)
|-faq.html ( 22,001 bytes)
|-plugin.properties (1,396 bytes)
|-plugin.xml (16,655 bytes)
|-README.html (432 bytes)
|-toc.xml (178 bytes)
|-toc_ajdt.xml (187 bytes)
|-toc_ajprogguide.xml (8,630 bytes)
|-toc_aspectj.xml (581 bytes)
|-doc (dir)
|-icons (dir)
|-lib (dir) |-META-INF (dir)
|-releaseNotes (dir)
* <eclipse home>/plugins/org.aspectj.ajde_1.1.3 should contain :-
|-about.html (1,944 bytes)
|-ajde.jar (1,032,803 bytes)
|-aspectjrt.jar (29,331 bytes)
|-aspectjtools.jar (6,123,817 bytes)
|-bcel.jar (491,281 bytes)
|-plugin.xml (1,356 bytes)
|-doc (dir)
|-icons (dir)
|-META-INF (dir)

* <eclipse home>/plugins/org.eclipse.aspectj_1.1.3 should contain :-
|-about.html (1,944 bytes)
|-about.ini (972 bytes)
|-about.mappings (191 bytes)
|-about.properties (405 bytes)
|-aspectjLogo.gif (983 bytes)
|-plugin.properties (62 bytes)
|-plugin.xml (700 bytes)
|-welcome.xml (2,777 bytes)
|-META-INF (dir)

One other thing. When you unjar'd to the target directories and restarted
your Eclipse, did you get the "Configuration Changes" pop up window with
information on pending changes to your Eclipse ?

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks George!

I cross checked all the contents in the respective directories. And they are
exactly same
as you mentioned. I didnt get any pop up after restarting the eclipse after
the installations.
I have installed eclipse Build id: 200303272130. I think it is eclipse 2.1.

Is there any specific way to install them?.

thanx
Venkat

Hi,

Yes you have Eclipse 2.1 installed. You can verify this yourself with Help -
> About Eclipse Platform which will present you with a panel containing all
of the information on version and build id's for that Eclipse installation.

Like I said in the earlier note, I would have expected that you would get a
pop-up from Eclipse once you restarted it after unzipping the downloaded
AJDT jars. You can force this pop-up to appear by :-

1. Start up Eclipse.
2. Help -> Software Updates... -> Pending Changes

This will present you with the "Configuration Changes" pop-up. The AJDT
feature should be listed in the "Detected Changes:" pane (you might have to
expand the tree to see it). If luck is on our side and you do see the AJDT
listed then select it, click on the "Finish" button at the bottom of the
pop-up and that should take care of the rest.

If the above proves fruitless then I suggest that you delete all of the
directories you created to unzip the downloaded jars and then try using the
AJDT Live Update Site to do the install for you. *This is by far the
preferred route*. Just follow the instructions in the "Installation - From
Live Update Site" section of the download page of the AJDT site at
http://www.eclipse.org/ajdt/ . NOTE : if you are behind a proxy server then
please set the Install/Update config for your Eclipse beforehand. Inside
the running Eclipse follow Window -> Preferences -> Install/Update and then
enter the required information in the "Proxy Settings" section on the
right.

Let us know how it goes.

Best regards,
George

No luck with 'Pending Changes'. I tried Live Update. When I clicked on
'install now' button
in preview window, it is showing these errors in a popup:

Current configuration contains errors that are not corrected by the
requested operation. See details for more information.
Resulting configuration does not contain the platform.
Resulting configuration does not contain the primary feature.
Spell Checker for Eclipse (1.0.0): Feature requires plug-in
"org.eclipse.core.resources".
Spell Checker for Eclipse (1.0.0): Feature requires plug-in
"org.eclipse.help".
Spell Checker for Eclipse (1.0.0): Feature requires plug-in
"org.eclipse.ui".

what are these Specll Checkers. Should I first install them before
installing this?

thanx
Venkat

Hi,

I have never seen this before. This sounds like the core of your problems
might be a corrupted Eclipse installation. I have just now used the Live
Update site to install AJDT for me on a new Eclipse 2.1.1 install and it
all went very smoothly. Granted, that is not much consolation for you but I
think it does indicate that your problems are related to the Eclipse you
are trying to install on to. Sorry to request this but can you try
installing a new Eclipse and trying out AJDT on that ?

Sorry,
George

Hi Venkat,

Have you by any chance installed the "Spell Checker for Eclipse" plugin
into the Eclipse that is giving you the AJDT problems ? The messages that
you report indicate that it is on there somewhere and that it is not very
happy. If you don't want to install a new Eclipse just for AJDT (as
suggested in my previous post) can you see if temporarily removing the
Spell Check plugin first clears up your problems with the Update Manager.

Bye for now,
George

I lost the zip file eclipse-SDK-2.1.1-win32.zip to install eclipse freshly.
So I was trying
to download it from eclipse URL. But I couldnt succeed. The servers were not
responding.
I tried to download from these two URLs:
http://download.eclipse.org/downloads/index.php
http://mirror.island.liu.se/eclipse/downloads/drops/R-2.1.1- 200306271545/ecl
ipse-SDK-2.1.1-win32.zip

Is there any other site from where I can download it. Or do anyone have that
file.

thanx
Venkat

Hi Venkat,

I cannot replicate this problem. Please could you verify that the jars were
unjar'd into the correct directory locations under your Eclipse install
directory. You may have had network problems while downloading the jars
which lead to some corruption. At the top level, could you verify that the
directory contents match the following ...

* <eclipse home>/features/org.eclipse.aspectj_1.1.3 should contain :-
|
|-aspectjLogo.gif (5,086 bytes)
|-cpl-v10.html (15,172 bytes)
|-feature.properties (5,517 bytes)
|-feature.xml (1,673 bytes)
|-license.html (4,796 bytes)
|-META-INF (dir)

* <eclipse home>/plugins/org.eclipse.ajdt.ui_0.6.3 should contain :-
|
|-about.html (1,944 bytes)
|-ajdt.jar ( 222,625 bytes)
|-ajdtsrc.jar ( 158,824 bytes)
|-faq.html ( 22,001 bytes)
|-plugin.properties (1,396 bytes)
|-plugin.xml (16,655 bytes)
|-README.html (432 bytes)
|-toc.xml (178 bytes)
|-toc_ajdt.xml (187 bytes)
|-toc_ajprogguide.xml (8,630 bytes)
|-toc_aspectj.xml (581 bytes)
|-doc (dir)
|-icons (dir)
|-lib (dir) |-META-INF (dir)
|-releaseNotes (dir)
* <eclipse home>/plugins/org.aspectj.ajde_1.1.3 should contain :-
|-about.html (1,944 bytes)
|-ajde.jar (1,032,803 bytes)
|-aspectjrt.jar (29,331 bytes)
|-aspectjtools.jar (6,123,817 bytes)
|-bcel.jar (491,281 bytes)
|-plugin.xml (1,356 bytes)
|-doc (dir)
|-icons (dir)
|-META-INF (dir)

* <eclipse home>/plugins/org.eclipse.aspectj_1.1.3 should contain :-
|-about.html (1,944 bytes)

Or do anyone have that
file.

thanx
Venkat
