<p class="p1">I have an application written for Eclipse 3 that uses ProjectExplorer etc to provide a way to edit and modify EPUB (eBook) documents (epubcrude).<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Works great, but there are a bunch of bugs and I'd like to add some new features.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Seems lame to do so under the old Eclipse 3.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Searched through this forum and found some pointers to these:</p>
<p class="p2"><br></p>
<p class="p3"><span class="s1">1. <a href="http://dirksmetric.wordpress.com/2012/08/01/tutorial-eclipse-rcp-e4-with-3-x-views-like-project-explorer-properties-etc/#more-132"><span class="s2">http://dirksmetric.wordpress.com/2012/08/01/tutorial-eclipse-rcp-e4-with-3-x-views-like-project-explorer-properties-etc/#more-132</span></a> 2. <a href="http://www.vogella.com/articles/Eclipse4CompatibilityLayer/article.html"><span class="s2">http://www.vogella.com/articles/Eclipse4CompatibilityLayer/article.html</span></a></span></p>

<p class="p4">However, the thread on this is more than a 18 months (and 2 Eclipse versions) old.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Is this still the best (or only) approach?<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>It seems odd to me that e4 doesn't support using such fundamental and useful controls as the Navigator, Console, etc. as first-class citizens of e4<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>but I can't find any references to a new approach.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>Am I just missing it?<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>If not, what is the philosophy behind not supporting this?<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>I can follow the above approaches but they seem rather cumbersome.</p>
