Only see packages from package explorer [message #251872] Tue, 04 March 2008 19:33 Go to next message

When I view a project in the package explorer of eclipse I see only
packages
and, nested one level below the packages, the Java files.
Thus I see a lot of packages making navigating to the desired Java files
difficult.

I would like see far fewer packages and much more of a directory hierarchy
structure with directories indented according to directory level.
I assume I set a preference somewhere for this but have been unable to
find it.

Note that I have seen other Eclipse users with the setup I am looking for
but no-one could tell me how to set Eclipse up this way. Theirs worked
the way I want from the start.

Any help or insights much appreciated.

Never mind. I found the solution.

Set package presentation to hierarchical in the menu (the triangle).

Hi Ralph. You might also take a look at Working Sets. These allow you to
group packages together and give you a higher-level starting point in
the Package Explorer. Mark

You might want to give the Java Browsing perspective a try. I much
prefer it over the Package Explorer, which I find to be very cluttered
and cumbersome.

Hope this helps,
Eric

PS, in the Java Browsing, I also prefer to have the
Projects/Packages/Types/Members views stack vertically along the left;
there is a setting for it in the Java > Appearance preferences.
