Import/contribute existing properties files [message #24488] Wed, 14 January 2009 09:43 Go to next message

Hello,

The Java Workflow Tooling already contained French and German
translations as properties files before we added the project to Babel.
However, we would now like to contribute those properties files directly
into Babel.

I've seen that some scripts already exist on the Bugzilla to import that
files, but I understood that they are currently not intended to be used
"as it" by contributors.

Thus I wondered how could I contribute those files? Should I open a bug
with the translation files so that Antoine would spend time running his
script against them ;) ?

Thanks in advance for your help

Regards,
Mickael

Hello Mickael,

Thanks a lot for pointing that out.
The Babel Committers have gathered a couple of ideas, especially for tools
like the Message Editor (for Properties files) which are part of Babel.
So either a direct import on the server side, or something to allow a
MessageEditor to communicate with the TranslationServer seems helpful here.

Could you please tell me, where those files are at the moment (repository
path, etc.) ?
As I would be happy to take a look at the German ones at least from the
Native Speaker and Language Champion perspective.

Regards,
Werner

Hello Werner,

Thanks a lot for your quick response!
You can find the JWT Workflow Editor translation files on CVS:
* repo: dev.eclipse.org:/cvsroot/technology
* files: org.eclipse.jwt/we/jwt-we/plugin_[fr/de].properties

Regards,
Mickael

Please open a bug against Babel and attach the files.

Also consider making translations in the Web UI. Importing stuff is
tiresome on my end.

If you'd like to help on creating an API for the client to directly
communicate with the server, there is a bug opened for that.

Cheers,

Antoine

Hi Antoine,

I opened bug 261156
(https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=261156) with attached
properties files.

Don't worry, now that JWT is integrated into Babel, we only use the
WebUI for translations, so that we won't bother with import you any more ;)

Thanks,
Mickael

That sounds like it is so far still manually done ?;-/

Of course, Werner, there is a lot of stuff to take care of. I'm not sure
we will ever escape having to deal with the file encoding and looking at
the translation quality.

Those two steps take a lot of energy. After that, it's a piece of cake.

Thanks,

Antoine
