I'm trying to install Eclipse 4.4 on my Mac (OS 10.7.5), but keep getting this error:

The JVM shared library "/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/home/bin/../lib/server/libjvm.dylib" does not contain the JNI_CreateJavaVM symbol

I feel like I've combed the entire internet for a solution and nothing seems to work. I have JDK and the right version. I have a 64 bit system and am using the 64 bit eclipse. Does anyone have any insight into the problem?
